For how long have we neglected to question the mask that appears before us as we look in the mirror? For how long will we accept our makeup, our chronic thoughts, feelings, habits, courtesies, and sensations – without question?
We’ve all been shaped, trimmed, and fit by our surroundings… family, culture, school, social pressures… what and who are you beyond what these have made you?
I say you are powerful beyond measure. Truly unique, with a gift that has more depth than the most bottomless well. Are you curious enough and determined enough to go looking for it? To try. You may be afraid of what you may find. I can say from experience you certainly will be. This is what most often keeps anyone from doing anything. Fear. But put yourself in the shoes of your 70-year-old self. Look at your current self, and ask them… “What are you afraid of? Are you afraid of living?”
However, stay conscious of this act of questioning and don’t act as a judge. Judgment of yourself can often come from those same powers you are trying to overcome, those placed upon you without your knowledge. So instead, look and question yourself with curiosity and a desire to understand rather than judge.
Risk, deterioration, change, failure, judgment. These keep us from realizing our potential. It’s time you shook these off your shoulders and stepped forward into your innate capability to bear the burden of humanity and provide your gift to the world despite your pain and suffering.
